Late March into April was a quite busy time for me! Let’s check on some things that I promised or hinted at last time and see how they turned out
The Hints & Hijinks Jam
Crisis in the Jwi-dal of Musin made it to the finish line! For those of you have joined us since the last newsletter, Crisis in the Jwi-dal of Musin is a action-mystery story set in December of 1728 in what is today Paju City, South Korea. A special government official, the Tomb Keeper of one of the burial sites for Joseon’s royalty, has gone missing. Suspicion of corruption and malfeasance abound. Our player characters have been tasked to find the fate of the Tomb Keeper fate as they navigate local politics and the dangers of the countryside.
The next step with that one is to modify the rules for Hints and Hijinx to make it compatible with the rules for my historical k-drama TTRPG Sageuk!, so it can operate as a story arc/adventure as originally intended, but this is a long-term project.
To Swear on your Honor
Last time I also promised an actual play for Cat McDonald’s To Swear on your Honor was in the works. While I have not posted any episodes of it yet, I have a first episode filmed and ready for editing. Keep an eye on this page or on Hessan County’s social media like Substack’s Notes, because I hope to have it ready for release for this Monday’s episode! (April 24th)
What is New?
Stoneburner
Just this week, we released not one, but two episodes of TTRPG Talk that discuss Stoneburner. This game created by
of Fari RPG and Galen Pejeau has been Kickstarting recently. It is built on René-Pier’s Breathless system that we have used for our game Lagash 3 and featured on the channel before.Definitely check these videos out if you have not already done so, as well as their Kickstarter that also has links to a preview of Stoneburner.
What is Coming?
Well, besides the start of the To Swear on Your Honor AP, I have a couple of things coming up that will make May interesting.
Manga and Anime Tribute TTRPG Jam
Lucky Newt Games is hosting a TTRPG jam for games inspired by Manga and Anime. There are already several isekai games as well as games inspired by Utena, One Piece, Spice and Wolf, and the magical girl genre that have been submitted.
There is lots of room for for anything from slice of life, horror, history, drama, scifi, mecha, and action. I have a couple of ideas floating around that were inspired by Stoneburner, but I am still defining exactly what direction I want to go in for my own entry.
The deadline is July 1st, so there is certainly still time still left if you want to join in as well!
I am Moving!
I previously mentioned that things had gotten slow in Hessan’s County because I recently changed jobs and had to contribute to a major project which released just a week or two ago. Well, now it is time for that job to result in another life change, moving!
We will be moving to the general area around Washington DC in late May & early June. As a result, I may have to miss some time on the website or the channel as we relocate, settle in, get internet, set up a new workspace/studio, etc. Follow my social media if you want to keep up to date on that.
