Hessan's Irregular News
Catching everyone up on the games that have come out and a major shout-out.
Hey! So, remember me? Yes? Really? Oh, awesome!
In all seriousness, sorry for the long radio silence. My family’s move from Ohio to the Washington DC area and then all the things involved in settling into a new area cut a lot more into my normal creative time than I expected and keeping the YouTube channel running took priority for me. I am sure I don’t need to tell you that the Algorithm can be a royal pain.
Anywho, I will not be doing a catch-up on what I had been doing today like I have in past newsletters. To be honest, that would take too long and I don’t even remember what all has happened since my last one. There are one or two things that have happened, and then I will discuss the future a bit more.
Games Released Since Last Time
I promised last time that you should keep an eye out for a game based on the Hints and Hijinx system called Crisis in the Jwi-dal of Musin. Well, I made the deadline and released the game! If you are interested in a Joseon-period mystery inspired by K-drama, you can check out the link in the image below.
In addition, I also created a game from Michael Low’s XD6 SRD called Banner-ships of the 10,000 Stars. It is in many ways a strategic space naval simulator, with your fleets ships and resources being abstracted to a large number of six-sided dice. Because of the focus on resources and strategy rather than the tactical, it allows you to use this system to solve lots of problems instead of just being a war game.
Again, if you are interested, the image below has a link to the itch store page.
I should be doing a new release soon as well as a part of Lucky Newt Game’s crowdfunder that is a suplument for Capricious Creatures, but I will talk more about that next time.
A New Storefront
For a long time, I have had a bit of a dream to start selling physical zines of my games. I got a taste of it through Plus One EXP selling physical prints of my citybuilding tool Tales of a City. (Link to the store for physical copies.) However, I wanted to expand this to some of the games I already made like Bannerships, The Tutelary Society, and Sageuk!
I have been working on all of the printing logistics and even fixing layout for some of my games to make printing easier. Now it is a matter of figuring out those last stages of distribution before I get this ball rolling.
To help facilitate this, I have started a storefront on the Hessan’s County website.
At the moment, it is still largely inaccessable to the public as it is still in the prototyping phase. The only product listed so far is my first game, The Land and The People, and that is basically just a glorified redirection page to the existing Itch store page. It is a start though!
That said, I am not sure if this will take off. I am curious. If I had physical games to sell, would you potentially be interested in getting any?
A Final Shout-out
Some of you may be familar with Long Tail Games that created the Tiny Library and Tiny Tome. These were texts that contained 50 single-page or business-card sized RPGs. For their most recent version, they decided to accept cards that followed the RPG fragment model of MOSAIC Strict and the theme of Modern Fantasy. They are crowdfunding it here on Crowdfundr and they could really use your support.
Look! They even made a YouTube Trailer for it!
I am encouraging you to check this out, not only because I think it is cool, but also because I have a card in this edition of the Little Library as well! Blossoms of Power is a version of my Blossom system that I used in several games. Here it is adapted to help you develop magic for a character by blending together 3 things, themes, words, or concepts into spells or magical powers.
They even made a trailer for my own contribution which you can find here if you still have Twitter:

That’s all for today. I hope you all stay well and enjoy spooky season!
